Can AI help your twins sleep better? Ways we used AI and tech to help us and our twins
The mental load in the twin newborn stage is something not talked about enough. There is a lot of emphasis on having everything ready for your twins, but having everything for mum and her mental load is often pushed to the side. Here I detail a few ways we leaned into technology to help alleviate some of the mental load in the first few months.
Here’s how technology may help you:
Smart sleep aids
When we found out we were having twins we started to look for any ways to make life with newborn twins and a two year old easier. With our first born, we lived with sleep deprivation for the better part of a year and we knew we didn’t want to relive that again. We had friends with mixed reviews of the Snoo, however we knew we had to change our approach if we wanted a different result.
Not only did we find that our twins had longer stretches of sleep in the Snoo’s but they were really helpful when I was on my own. They were a second set of hands for me as I could put one baby in one Snoo to help settle them to sleep whilst I got the other one ready. We could also track the twins' sleep patterns, which also help us determine when the twins we’re ready to drop their overnight feed.
These types of products are not for everyone and I get that but for us, looking for a way to ease the load slightly, helped us greatly.
If you’re interested, it’s definitely worth looking at Facebook marketplace or other second hand platforms as they can be significantly lower in cost and.
AI as your personal sleep assistant
If you’re following a feeding and sleep routine for your twins and things have gone a bit haywire, look to ChatGPT for some assistance. You can add in your current routine and ask for help to get your babies back to their routine and desired bedtime.
Example prompt:
“My twins are 6 months old and woke at 5:30am instead of 7am. How should I shift naps to keep bedtime at 6:30pm?”
No Googling. No guessing. Just clarity.
Automate what you can
Most major supermarkets and retailers have apps to help you search, create lists and notifications and set up automated deliveries. Here are some that we used and still use today.
Coles or Woolworths to create shopping lists so that you can simply re-order your weekly staples for either delivery or click and collect
Set up a subscription on Amazon for essentials such as nappies and wipes. There is usually a discount applied when setting up a subscription.
Set up an automated food delivery service such as meal box delivery, freezer meals and/or fresh fruit and vegetables.
Setting up a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly cleaner to help with the household chores. Depending on your area, there may be a platform or an app where you can schedule this as a recurring service.
